Swedish-Turkish Scholarship Program 2012-2013

Starting from 2002, the Swedish Institute offers a special scholarship program for citizens of Turkey. Its purpose is to support master's level or advanced level studies within selected subject areas at a Swedish Institution of higher education. Since 2002, around 20 Turkish students annually are awarded scholarships for master’s degree studies in Sweden within the Swedish-Turkish scholarship program.

Scholarships are given within the fields of social sciences and environmental studies with priority to the following areas: economics and management, democracy/human rights/gender issues, law, environmental studies, European studies and social issues. In addition to these scholarships, a new scholarship in memory of Anna Lindh was announced during the visit of Swedish Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds to Turkey in October 2004: the Swedish-Turkish Scholarship for Human Rights Law in Memory of Anna Lindh.

Turkish students applying to a master's programme in human rights law at a Swedish university are eligible for this scholarship program. Currently, only one programme is available - the Master’s Program in International Human Rights Law. It is taught by Lund University's Faculty of Law in cooperation with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights.

The scholarship covers living expenses for one person during two semesters with a possibility of prolongation, and travel expenses to and from Sweden. To apply, follow the standardized application instructions for master's scholarships below.

How to apply for master’s degree grants

Application for scholarship for master degree studies is made online at www.studyinsweden.se. Application period is 1 December, 2010 - 19 January, 2011. Only a limited number of Swedish master programs will be eligible for scholarships next year. The selection of master programs has been made by the universities and the list of eligible programs are published together with the call for applications on www.studyinsweden.se. The eligible master programs will be within the following study areas: Economics and management, democracy/human rights/gender issues, law, environmental studies, European studies and social issues.

Swedish-Turkish Scholarship Program for PhD and post-doctoral studies in Sweden

Scholarships are given within the fields of social sciences and environmental studies with priority to the following areas: economics and management, democracy/human rights/gender issues, law, environmental studies, European studies and social issues.

How to apply for postgraduate grants, part of PhD or research

Grants are provided for postgraduate studies, part of PhD studies or research. In order to be considered for a research grant you have to be registered at a Turkish university or research institution, and have an invitation from a Swedish university department or research institution.

The application system is open between 1 December, 2010 - 1 February, 2011.

English proficiency

Swedish universities and university colleges require that skills in English are documented by an international proficiency test (TOEFL – approx. 550 p, computer-based TOEFL 213 p, IELTS, MELAB, Cambridge First Certificate).

Financial conditions

At present scholarships are SEK 8000 (approximately EUR 800) per month for master’s studies, SEK 12000 (EUR 1200) per month for PhD studies and SEK 15000 (EUR 1500) per month for holders of a PhD degree, plus travel grant to and from Sweden. Each scholarship is designed to cover the living expenses of one person only. There are no grants for family members.

The scholarship holder is insured by the Swedish Institute against illness and accidents during the scholarship period.

Kofi Annan Fellowship for Developing Countries 2012-2013

The Kofi Annan Fellowship provides the opportunity for talented and motivated students from developing countries who do not belong to a privileged class and lack sufficient financial means to study management at ESMT in Berlin and graduate with a prestigious MBA from the most international business school in Germany.

Upon return to their home countries, the fellows are expected to contribute to the strengthening of entrepreneurial capacity and the fostering of a stable market economy as an effective catalyst for their country’s development, job creation, and poverty alleviation.

What is the Kofi Annan Fellowship?

A fellowship grant for an emerging leader from a developing country for a one-year full-time MBA education in Berlin, Germany.

Purpose
To make significant contributions to least developed countries (LDCs) and landlocked developing countries (LLDCs); to strengthen the awareness for responsibility in leadership in developed countries.

Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships 2012-2013

The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to approximately 1,000 undergraduates, graduates, and PhD students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunsthochschulen”). We expect our scholarship recipients to have excellent academic records, to be socially and politically engaged, and to have an active interest in the basic values of the foundation: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self determination and justice

Eligibility

A) By 1 September 2012 (postmarked) applications can submitted by:

1. German students and students who have received their university entrance qualification from a German school (‘Bildungsinländer_innen’) and are pursuing their FIRST university degree

Scholarships

The maintenance scholarships which are awarded to German citizens, EU citizens and students who have gained their university entrance qualifications from a German school will be calculated on the same basis as BAföG, depending on your parent’s income and/or your own income and personal assets. Irrespective of this, an independent book grant of 150 € per month will be awarded to all successful applicants.

You are entitled to receiving a scholarship if you are enrolled at a state or state-recognized institution of higher education (university, college or equivalent) in Germany, Switzerland or in a member state of the EU.

University of Lausanne Master's Grants 2012-2013

To facilitate access to Master’s degrees by students with qualifications from foreign universities, the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, makes available around ten Master’s grants which are awarded on a competitive basis. Please read below to learn more about the application process for 2012.

Programmes concerned

Candidates must choose a Master's programme from among those offered by the UNIL, except the Master of Medicine, Master of Arts in Public Management and Policy, Master of Arts in Sciences and Practices of Education. The grant may not be used for any complementary studies required to enroll on the Master’s degree and may not be used for EMBAs or Masters of Advanced studies.

Amount and duration of the grant

The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month from 15 September to 15 July, for a duration not exceeding the regulation minimum period of the programme (according to the programme, one-and-a-half years or two years subject to deduction for paid placements or exempt semesters, if any). Abandonment of the programme results in suspension of the grant.

Required conditions

• The candidate must be the holder of a degree from a foreign university.
• The qualification held by the candidate must be deemed equivalent to the UNIL Bachelor’s degree.

Selection procedure

Candidates complete the "UNIL Master’s Grant" form and submit their application to the Office for socio-cultural affairs (SASC, Unicentre, University of Lausanne, CH-1015 Lausanne, info.sasc@unil.ch) by 15 December 2011 at the latest. The application is examined by the University Rectorate to determine whether the candidate is admissible. In the event of a positive decision, the application is forwarded by the SASC to the UNIL Faculty responsible for the Master’s on which the candidate wishes to be enrolled. The Faculty selects applications and notifies the SASC of its opinion based on the candidate’s qualities, motivation and suitability for the Master’s programme. The SASC forwards shortlisted applications to the selection committee which will award grants to students meeting all criteria according to the available budget.
Decisions are not open to appeal.

Selection criteria

The grants are intended more particularly for students who distinguished themselves in their university studies and who have difficulty meeting their financial needs for the duration of the Master’s. It is however necessary that the candidates have sufficient financial means to support themselves during the complementary studies that may be required prior to enroll on the Master’s degree.

Rochus und Beatrice Mummert Foundation Master’s Scholarships 2012-2013

The Rochus und Beatrice Mummert Foundation sponsors High Potentials from Central and South Eastern Europe in the fields of economics, business administration, engineering, natural sciences or tourism management. The Program includes, amongst others, a scholarship for 2,5 years for a Master degree at the University of Cologne, the German Sport University Cologne or at the RWTH Aachen. The scholarships are offered within the Robert Bosch Stiftung. Within the programe a 4-5-month internship (usually in the summer semester of the 2nd academic year) a management education is included.

Requirements for a Mummert Scholarship:

Master Grants from the University of Bern 2012-2013

The Universität Bern offers six Master Grants for the academic year 2012/13 for excellent international students. The grant consists of 1'600 CHF per month for the duration of the Master's programme (standard period of study). Application files will be examined by a selection committee. Criteria for selection are academic excellence and the candidate's potential and motivation.

For further information about the Master's programmes offered at our university, please contact the concerned Department directly. All Master’s programmes of the University of Bern are offered except “Biomedical Sciences”.

Preconditions:

• Applicants must have graduated at the latest by the end of July 2012 with at least a Bachelor's degree in the wished field of study
• This Bachelor's or Master's degree must be from a non-Swiss university
• The applicants permanent place of residence up to now must have been outside of Switzerland

Admissions Process

The admissions process for Academic Year 2012/2013 is organized as follows:

January 25, 2012: Applications are submitted to degree programs.

Step 1: Pre-selection

Applications are evaluated on the basis of the applicant’s academic performance, work experience, recommendations, and expectations of the program and future plans.

Individual interviews may take place, face-to-face or by telephone, throughout the selection process.

After February 3, 2012: Pre-selection decisions are made available via the online application system. Successful applicants having applied to take any CEU-administered admissions examinations are notified of the testing arrangements by email.

Step 2: Testing

February 11, 2012: The CEU-administered TOEFL examination takes place.

February 11, 2012: Department-specific testing takes place:

• Economics: Mathematics Test
• Legal Studies: Legal Reasoning Test and Legal Essay
• Mathematics: Mathematics examination
• Medieval Studies: Supplementary examination
• Political Science: Test of Writing Ability

Applicants who pass the pre-selection and who wish/are required to sit any CEU-administered admissions tests will be notified of the practical arrangements by the local CEU coordinators organizing the tests.

February 29, 2012: Standard English and other applicable test score reports must be received by the Admissions Office.

Step 3: Final evaluation

Applicants are evaluated by a departmental selection committee on the basis of past academic achievement, recommendations, English language competency, intellectual merit and general compatibility with the goals of the department.

After March 20, 2012: The final admissions decisions are made available to candidates via the online application system.

International Study Programmes at the University of Amsterdam

University of Amsterdam, ranked among the top 30 universities in Europe and the top 100 worldwide, has one of the largest numbers of international Master's study programmes of any university in Europe, with over 120 taught in English and several of the courses offered being unique to the UvA. Study programmes at the UvA offer a high level of autonomy. Respect for each individual's opinions and convictions are central in the Netherlands' diverse and plural society.

For 2012-2013, the UvA has a large number of Master's and Research Master's international programmes covering a broad range of disciplines and topics. Regular Master's programmes usually take a year and lead, upon successful completion, to the award of an MSc, MA or LLM degree. Research Master's programmes take two years and prepare candidates to pursue and develop a career in academic research or associated professions.

The minimum entry requirement for Master's programmes is a Bachelor's degree in a related subject or field which is equivalent to a Dutch Bachelor's degree. In addition, students need to demonstrate a sufficient command of English in order to be able to follow lectures, tutorials and course materials. Some programmes have additional entry requirements.

Amsterdam Merit Scholarship

The University provides a limited number of scholarships for excellent students in the selected Master's programmes. The total amount for the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship dedicated to the specific faculty is established annually. As the actual number of scholarships is derived from this amount, no fixed number is in place. For the academic year 2011-2012, 20% of students from outside the European Union that started in one of the Master's programme has been awarded a € 12,000 Amsterdam Merit Scholarship.

In order to be considered for the AMS scholarship applicants need to meet the following general criteria:

• hold non-EEA nationality or nationalities only
• have above average academic results
• not be entitled to receive a Dutch study grant or loan ("Studiefinanciering")
• not receive a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as the AMS scholarship
• have submitted a complete application to one of the MSc programmes including a sufficient English test score
• have been (or will be) admitted to one of the MSc programmes
• be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa (if applicable).

1. Applicants should write an AMS motivation letter (tell us in not more than 300 words your motivation to get the scholarship).

Jim Gatheral Scholarship 2012-2013 for International Students at University of Glasgow

The 2012-2013 round of the Jim Gatheral Scholarship is now open to applications. The University of Glasgow is delighted to present the Jim Gatheral Scholarship, a postgraduate travel award intended to enhance a doctoral student’s experience of mathematical modeling, to provide funding to allow the award holder to undertake a placement lasting between two months and one year at a centre of advanced study preferably outwith the UK in order to enrich and further their academic experience and research achievements; to learn or develop new techniques in the field of mathematical modelling; to benefit the University of Glasgow by introducing new skills to the University or creating/furthering research collaborations with international centres of excellence. Tips for a successful application from the Scholarship panel

You must explain how the situation in your country has affected you personally. Don't just describe the situation in your country.

Please do not send a CV but include any evidence you have to support your personal statement. We may request evidence from you at a later date if your application is short listed.

Don't focus on your academic qualifications unless it is relevant to your application.

The Scholarship is for a substantial amount of funding so we expect to see students giving time and consideration to their application and providing us with detailed information about their situation.

Closing Date

All completed forms must be received by Monday 20th June 2011 - applications submitted after this date will not be considered.

What happens next?

The Scholarship panel will consider your application in July. You will be informed of the decision mid-July.

2012 -2013 The Felix Scholarships for Students from Developing Countries

The primary objective of the Felix Scholarship is to stimulate the Felix scholars by exposing them to academic study, cultures, experiences and friendships that they would not otherwise have had the chance to sample. MSc Management and Information Systems

The MSc in M&IS develops the "hybrid" mix of management and information systems skills that we know from experience is essential to the successful and strategic application of information and communication technologies by today's organisations. It is designed to develop two groups of participants in developing and transitional economies: functional managers who wish to take greater control over, and make a more direct contribution to, change in their organisations via the development and implementation of information systems; and information systems professionals who wish to improve the success rate of the information systems they develop or use, and who may also wish to upgrade their management skills and knowledge.

Who studies on this programme?

The MSc M&IS programme is available through distance learning so that practitioners can study while continuing to work in their ongoing professional roles, in the public, private and civil society sectors, or in roles in international organisations, agencies or NGOs. Students work alongside their MSc study, and complete the programme part-time: typically in about two-and-a-half years.

Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship?
